In spite of remaining questions to be answered regarding the bailout, I think the candidates should continue the debate. I guess America will find out tomorrow as to what the outcome of the bailout would be. At that point, if there are any business that the 2 candidates need to attend to at the last minute to help expedite the bailout, then they can decide whether to postpone their debate, priorities!

The presidential debate should be suspended until the economic crisis is settled in Washington. The debates will certainly still take place and our economy is in immediate need of a solution to the current problem which the Senators are paid to deal with and vote upon. Neither McCain or Obama owns the office of President but of Senator. Their duty to the American public is to resolve important issues that concern welfare of the American public. It is not surprising at all that McCain will put the country and his duty above his campaign for a higher office and fulfill his duty, and it is also not surprising that Obama will simply not vote or show up when America needs decided action to important issues. Obama will take every opportunity to point out why he can blame everyone but himself about the economy- if the public thinks they can trust him with our economy over McCain, then why isn't he there without the President's invitation to do his job? The answer is obvious, his preference is that he would rather be campaigning for a higher position than doing the work that he is currently being paid by the American people to do. Instead he chooses not to show up to the meetings and come together for the good of the American public, because he thinks he is more important than the position he serves. If Obama were elected President, he would not hold Americas interest above his own. It is clear that what is best for Obama, is what he will pursue. If he's so great with the economy, then let's hear his answers on how to handle this situation as well as why he thinks the Democrats all voted NO to the bill for addressing this situation in 2001 brought by President Bush. Except of course Obama didn't vote No, instead He just didn't show up. He must not have thought it was important in 2001 either. If the Democrats in Congress would have listened at that time, perhaps we wouldn't even be discussing this and be in this situation now.

Tired of the FOR THE GOOD OF THE COUNTRY lie

I'm an undecided voter. I don't trust the president enough to take his word that this bailout is the answer. Why are they moving so fast? It's the F-word all over again. (FEAR) Americans need to take a stand and say NO DEAL. Yesterday and Today has been a political stunt. John McCain suspends his campaign then Bush calls a meeting to include Obama. Can you see the republicans at work again? It's not country first, McCain isn't doing well in the polls so this is his way to regroup. It's a time-out. As president, you have to deal with the war, the economy, and all sorts of other issues at one time. I want to see a debate and hear from both sides. I want to hear about the plan, how it effects us, and what's being done to prevent this from happening again and yes, this does effect the rest of the world. Democrats and Republicans better get it together and start thinking about us. How quickly they forget WE HIRE THEM and we can FIRE them in the next election.

Country First! Why doesn't Obama, and those that voted no, get it we are in a crisis and politics comes second! This reaffirms my vote for Sen. McCain, he wants to lead and try to fix this economic ciaos,
and Obama, just like the last nineteen months, just wants to campaign for President. He needs to go back to being a community organizer or whatever he was in Chicago, were he had no responsibilities!
I can just see it now, if he gets elected, instead of being President he will be running for what, "King of the World"?
I'm a Democrat from Texas and I'm sick and tired of my party nominating these far left wing liberals who just don't get it....makes me want to change party affiliation!

ArtSierra, how stupid can one person really be?
Your famous John McCain does not have the mental intellect to be president.
He is dumb and does not have the temperement to deal with anyone who doesn't agree with him.
You can continue to live in your white dream world trying to make John McCain a hero.

McSane is not the only man held as a pow - some did not come back home. Being held as a prisoner does not mean we have to give John McCain a free pass on being stupid. This man is an embrassment if the truth were to be told!

America is becoming a big joke because people like you keep putting the dumb ones up front!

                A New America

This is just more proof that McCain is running SCARED. How can the republicans have allowed this person to run for president? He is totally incompetant. And so out of touch with reality, and has no idea what the middle America needs.

I think that the debate should be ongoing. If congress can't figure this out then we are in a world of hurt. The people of this country need to hear from the two candidates what their plan is, specifically. Not what the politically correct answer would be but what the right answer is. Holding off on the debate wouldn't accomplish anything. Let get it on.

I say lets debate. Why should we have to wait because McCain isn't prepared. That is the only reason I would see him not wanting to debate at this time. Congress has already stated that they were not needed.

                    art sierra,

You are a classic example of the type of person that allowed Bush to be elected, then- re-elected and is now willing to allow McCain to take his turn at screwing our country up.

You are no Democrat and SHOULD change your affiliation.... Only a Dope would vote for a Dope like Mccain

Trying to delay the debate is a shameless political ploy by John McCain in the face of a struggling campaign. His career as a champion of deregulation is coming back to haunt him, as is his strong and lenghthy connection to the very lobbyists that he now falselyattempts to decry. Now that more serious scrutiny is being applied to Sarah Palin, what initial luster she enjoyed has largely been lost. McCain is desperate to divert attention from his record by any means. Neither, he nor Obama are needed in Washington D.C. to adddress the economic crisis. Obama was right on with his response that a President needs to be able to do more than one thing at a time. McCain is 72 years old and has pointedly referenced his limited understanding of the economy, that he doesn't really know how to use a computer too well, and doesn't use "the Google". Hopefully the country is ready for a modern President who is in touch with the prevailing culture and its tools.

The republicans are not interested in any social engineering to be put into the bill. And the democrats have already tried and been rebuffed. I believe both will give in somewhat because both are complicit in this problem. Republicans did not scream enough how bad this was going to be. Democrats put in the social engineering that caused it albeit not knowing how bad it would or could get (social engineering not knowing what it cost is an extremely Poltroon idea).
